Owlfly Larva (Ascalaphidae, Neuroptera) and Coreid Bug Meal
This sight truly amazed me. I had long understood that owlfly larva were ground-based ambush predators. This individual was at eye level (I am 6’2”) in vegetation. What is more it had presumably tackled a leaf-footed bug far exceeding its own proportions. I was wondering how it would consume this prey in such a situation without manipulating limbs. An astounding spectacle none-the-less.![]()
